This is great especially for us #serverless fans who use lambda for a lot of
data transformation and event handling in #iot projects: billing is now 100x
more granular! This will drive down costs significantly, many of the durations I
observe are <100 ms

I think one of the misconceptions #newwork/#futureofwork brought us is that it's

you can split the problem in two smaller ones: parsing the group form entries

those.
The most unrealistic part of #adventofcode is that the samples provided always

@maaretp This is one of the main ideas behind
microservices, keep important data local to decrease coupling.
https://microservices.io/patterns/data/database-per-service.html
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/microservices/design/data-considerations
@maaretp The source data needs to be available
fully, because the source never knows how other services use that data. So some
services might need to maintain a verbatim copy, others only subsets.
Bonus points for using it for something that benefits those that do not have
this privilege. https://twitter.com/hankgreen/status/1335276045671403520

I really like the ability to optionally add features to a REST API using AWS
CDK. Here is a StepFunction definition that can be configured to query a lambda
if present:
https://github.com/bifravst/aws/blob/562a20908e6716cb55bc6947d7de80aa6546582a/cdk/resources/CellGeolocation.ts#L246
I'm reminded of this because now I need to add it to Azure flavor of
@bifravst.
On Bifravst we use this for the Cell Geolocation resolution, which can
optionally call a 3rd party API (in this case UnwiredLabs). All that's needed to
turn this on or of is setting one parameter (the API key).
https://bifravst.github.io/bifravst/docs/aws/CellGeolocation.html
This is super nice because it adds a tiny overhead (one hardcoded condition in a
StepFunction) but makes plug-and-play features possible.

them for 4 things every week, because I think these are very important for
them:
- note progress
- get clarity on goals
- identify where you struggle
- say thank you
Here is the long version:
README: Coaching Office Hours
Each student should provide an individual small status update every week:
- Describe one interesting thing you learned in the past week.
- Upload one screenshot of your week's work progress.
- Describe one thing you struggle with.
- Write a virtual Kudo card
(https://www.scrumdesk.com/kudo-cards-tool-for-motivation-and-retrospective-in-one/)
to a team member (you can do this privately if you like). Here is a template:
Each team should provide a written status update every week in Teams:
- Describe the goals you were working towards this week and the progress you
made towards them. - Describe the blockers you encounter.
- Describe what you plan to work on next week.

@spazierendenken What is your setup?
@spazierendenken That would surprise me. IMAP/SMTP is a standard for

configure this outside of Outlook.

@gr2m This is very language specific, there is no
official AWS maintained way to publish application code to lambda, for them it's
a zipfile on S3. Some work has been done in CDK around that:
https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/devops/building-apps-with-aws-cdk/
@gr2m Really depends on the complexity of the app.
But basically you can ZIP a node project with all dependencies and upload that.
@gr2m In production I use this approach:
https://coderbyheart.com/how-i-package-typescript-lambdas-for-aws
@gr2m Some compile the code into a self-contained JS
file. It's efficient if you have very few lambdas.

liter reservoir that's heated continually.
@ste5eu Well, I don't think it will pay for itself

to be considered from an ecological point of view. It reduces water usage as
well. And it increases convenience.
@ste5eu Not exactly. The reservoir has 3l, but
it's highly insulated so the energy required to keep it hot is very low.
@ste5eu Backend: It has the reservoir, plus an

I think it's easier to give an impression of ingenuity because backend code is
hidden away doing some "magic", while Frontend code is much easier accessible to

Dear Frontend Developers, don't get fooled by some random dude.
There is an entire career to be made on building excellent frontends and it
includes very demanding topics like usability, color theory, typography,
motion/animation, accessibility, layout, screen design, ...
localisation, which a backend developer never will have to worry about. And I am
eternally grateful for every Frontend developer I've worked with who looked at
this challenges and was like, "Yep, let's do it!" because this does not spark
joy for me.
Some people are just grumpy asshats who will diminish something just because

@KlaraMiffili I never did more than a list
of things I'd like to do today on a post-it.
@MaritvanDijk77
@nicolefv My Stein? Ramm
Unfortunately we had to cancel the 2021
@codefreeze_fi, so to get a little bit of
that feeling we drove to Dovrefjell in #Norway where there is at least a little
bit of snow ...
Uhhh, that sound. ❄️
@testinsideout
@MaritvanDijk77
@nicolefv Close ;-) "Mein Stein"
@RidingWolf I noticed that PSUs are also high
on demand these days. And this one is pretty new, too.
We did a 14 km snowshoe hike! Mostly on powder snow. 😍❄️

@miskaknapek To you, too!
@maaretp I guess because in most organizations as
a developer you cannot hire more people. For me the article is clear that
developers have a lot of autonomy within their team to work on bottlenecks
(optimize for consistent flow), while management (the people who can invest
cash) can
@maaretp opt to increase flow by hiring more
people.
@maaretp I took that in this context a manager is
a person who has the resources to hire.
@maaretp I guess that's one of the points
@mpoppendieck makes in this article: it
needs an agile (or elastic) organisation for this to work properly, teams
optimize within their bounds and the organisation scales by providing the right
amount of teams.
@pati_gallardo The Expanse? It's fantastic
sci-fi.
@pati_gallardo Hjem til Jul, it's cute! Uh,
GLOW is hilarious.
@maaretp
@mpoppendieck Because a fully busy team is
not able to optimize, so in this case you can't correlate what they are
producing to be a good measure of their performance.
