@annwitbrock The intention is not important,
what matters is how it is received.
@annwitbrock I don't get how someone with an
intention to achieve inclusion, can use "Hey guys!" to address everyone with a
straight face.
I'm now reaching a point where I need a solution to share logfiles from devices
with colleagues in a convenient way, one that allows stream live logs, but also
organise sessions using tagging, naming. Does that exist?
@leastpossible Hm, looks interesting, seems
a little too much focused on support cases. I'd prefer something more
lightweight.
@johnjonesname
@RealIvanSanchez What do you use as
destination that allows to easily and secretly share a log session?
@RealIvanSanchez
@johnjonesname That solves the "secret"
part. But SSH is not convenient (and for me overkill).
And it's not easy to separate these logs into session by device type, firmware
version, etc.
Ideally it's a secret URL (like a Gist), but with streaming capabilities.
@RealIvanSanchez
@johnjonesname Just my perspective on the
tooling.
Asking all my team members to set up SSH authentication is not an option for me.
I should have clarified what I think convenient is: access using a web-browser.
@RealIvanSanchez
@johnjonesname I did not say that.

... or if you love YAML: https://oai.github.io/Documentation/start-here.html
@johnjonesname Interesting, thanks!
@5422m4n But how do you share a log session?
@5422m4n I have multiple devices / firmware
version / bugs that I am debugging, so for a specific combination of those I
want to be able to collect and share the logs.
@AndyScherzinger It's 5 years old, and I
have no experience with the newer ones. However reviews were generally very
good, and OLED looks great:
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9310-OLED-Laptop-Review-Is-It-Better-Than-IPS.541450.0.html
So I'd pick that with 32 GB RAM and i7.
@serapath Does that work for continuously
appended streams as well?
It's amazing how much shit can be put in one single tweet.
@byteborg And how do you share sessions of logs
with others?
@ulfkar Those are
@NordicTweets Thingy:91s:
https://www.nordicsemi.com/Software-and-tools/Prototyping-platforms/Nordic-Thingy-91
and they run one of the applications from our SDK:
https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/applications.html
61 developers are now millionaires because StackOverflow was sold, and people
will use this as a great example to push the "equity instead of cash" agenda.
Consider for a second how many developers you know personally that got this
lucky.
And if you consider taking equity instead of cash consider if everyone in your
company has the privilege of being able to exchange money today for a slim bet
on future income that very often can be voided unilaterally.

Hei friends! I am attending @SoCraTes_UK and
I miss having breakfast with other people who share my passion about software...
#SoCraTesUK
@Maaikees Don't they have these regular doors at
the side of them, which nobody notices?
@terabaud Herrje.
We have a full schedule ahead! #SoCraTesUK
First session: #OKRs - Share Your Learnings at #SoCraTesUK. Looking forward to
discuss since I feel this is a often misused tool and it's great to hear about
other experiences with them.
If you are not aware of them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OKR
In my experience the problem is not the definition itself, but finding good
OKRs.
I also see them as a good framework to discuss one's purpose in the organization
and what you are contributing, even if you leave out the measurement part.
But it's important to realize that some (even critical) functions in an
organization cannot be measured.
Interesting book recommendation from @branaby:
https://www.amazon.com/Art-Action-Leaders-between-Actions/dp/1857885597
It seems like we exclusively have issues with measuring results. And the
literature makes this look way too easy. As a profession we could research more
and get a better understanding of if that part of OKRs is more harmful.
@branaby Bought ... looking forward to this.
Session notes:
Second #SoCraTesUK session was one I held (so not much summary here, sorry):
Better way for documenting Architecture visually (what about the glue?).
Notes:
Now in the #SoCraTesUK session with the world's best kata facilitator
@malk_zameth, and practicing my architecture
diagramming skills on the FizzBuzz kata. I tried two variants.

Changed the style a little with the Roman Numerals kata:
Now doing some session hopping at #SoCraTesUK, first looking into how to TDD
"simple" problems, now in @ezagroba session
career options for experts. Both are fascinating, open exchanges.
Now in the #SoCraTesUK session about trunk vs feature branch development.
First, going over the basics: https://trunkbaseddevelopment.com/ explains it
very well.
It seems like everyone in the session is onboard with trunk-based-development
already.
Confidence for TBD can also come from good monitoring.
@Lazer Wasp nest, don't remove yourself, they are a
protected species.
@Lazer It seems Sweden, again, is different:
https://www.anticimex.com/sv-se/nyhetsrum/2021/trendbrott-hos-getingar---prognosen-for-sommaren-osaker/
(see sektion later in article, "Anticimex tips pΓ₯ hur du getingsΓ€krar runt ditt
hus:")
IMO, feature flags are an antipattern with TBD and mean that you don't make your
changes small enough.
Now moving on to code reviews, and this seems to be required reading:
https://twitter.com/Sageniuz/status/1382230744060342272
Interesting discussion at #SoCraTesUK now about what "passion" in software craft
means, for us, for employers.
Is it, when used in job ads, a codified request to work overtime?
As an industry we should normalize it more that you can deliver great value as a
software developer, without being passionate.
Ask yourself, if you ask for it, what do you associate with that term?
Such a beautiful framing from HeloΓ‘ in the session: I am not a software
developer. I work as a software developer.
We now have shifted to the topic of #loyality. How much of it does an employer
deserve?
Can't watch this with a straight face ...

I attended the 24 hour liquid ensemble programming for a while and IMHO it
served well to show people how ensemble programming works, and what tools and
techniques exist to facilitate ensemble programming.
However having people work on a codebase they don't know, in a language they
have no experience with, and people hopping on and off dilutes the perceived
usefulness of this technique. I hope people try this with their own codebase
again.

If you were to be provided with a react web application (for managing IoT

@raphaelfyi But this app has many form fields,

Wow, the prices for appartments in Oslo are something...
@mortzu No. I was talking with a colleague the
other day about prices in Oslo vs Trondheim, because he is moving there...
@pati_gallardo PaaS, Patricia as a Service
@slsoftworks Is it? I can add it via the app:
@slsoftworksβs ...
@slsoftworks Ah, sorry, you meant
specifically in the PWA...
Could be so easy, right? I think the argument is "But, tax authorities something
something!". https://twitter.com/kyleve/status/1408849247806443526
@pati_gallardo It's not pretty but it
works, happy to share my thoughts in a call if interested...
Metallica: Some kind of Monster is on Netflix now, and I think a pretty great
documentary about mental health.

@alterisian I think the most Rock&Roll
thing was James working 12-4 so he could attend his daughters ballet practice.
@timothep I wore Geox Uomo Snake for a while,
you might still find some models, they look very similar. These days I prefer

So important for employers to realize that they need to do more than just
showing acceptance. They have foster a culture where everyone is welcome to
bring their full self to work and not feel they have to hide. Esp. here in
Norway, where i see much heteronormativity.

I'm back working on running firmware end-to-end tests on #Azure and have been
struggling for days now with a seemingly simple task: using service principal
credentials to access the IoT hub.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/454654/using-role-to-access-iot-hub-registry.html
Interestingly, a code search on GitHub did yield not much.
So I wonder, how to interact with Azure resources from CI runners like GitHub
actions?

Weather for tonight: #Norway π³π΄
@gr2m How could it be made easier?
@gr2m I've made https://localschedule.netlify.app/
which could be modified / extended to show only one date...
@lauralindal "attractive"
The problem is always in front of the screen.

Someone found the solution for me:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/454654/using-role-to-access-iot-hub-registry.html?childToView=456415#answer-456415
Remember to add permissions for the service principal explicitly to the IoT Hub.
Kickstarter idea: noise cancelling burr grinder.
@johncutlefish Why should we get rid of one
of the most accessible ways for people to educate themselves?

@testim_io It was over way too fast!
In Germany yesterday divers rescued people trapped in their appartments because
of flooding.
WTF.
