@ewolff Yes, some things are priceless, but while
working on the list, I thought: what would I need to get paid, if I this wasn't
there.
@ewolff And most of them are interrelated: you
won't have a great team but none of the others. The sum is greater than the
individual …

Planning a workation trip to Barcelona in April …
@ewolff
@n1ko_w1ll You could also work less, because

@ewolff would not makes sense, if I can have it

@ewolff I agree! Let's conclude, that measuring
things with money that I can't buy, is pointless. It's about the conversation it
starts.

Some things are really obviously aimed to do harm. E.g. developing guiding
software for a weapon. But other not so:
Software is in most case just a tool. If it is used for bad purpose, depends on
the user / the company that employs it for a specific use.
Take databases. They can be use to catalog a lot of things, e.g. virus
infections, and this can be use to save lives.
The same database can be used to catalog muslims to deport them.
For us developers it is therefore important to understand the complete context
of our work, not just the immediate user story at hand.
But to foresee and prevent every negative use of software is impossible.

@c089 tough, what can help in my experience are
techniques from the non-violent communication. Try to understand the different
layers of
@c089 what is communicated, what the situation of
the other person might be. If unsure, I try to politely pry for more details.

non-violent), let it simmer for a while if potentially controversial.

Their argument is faulty. There is no reason that you have to put "everything"

https://twitter.com/g33konaut/status/819388990251999232
You can split your async code into smaller promises, and merge their execution
with http://bluebirdjs.com/docs/api/promise.all.html #javascript

@g33konaut yes, "cancellable" Promises (or ext.

@fdeberle babel + browserify. Webpack does too
many things at once IMO.
@fdeberle babel src -d es5 browserify es5/app.js
-o build/app.js is pretty straightforward, no value in webpack there.

@MattBolton365 ask
@coding_nerd they may have some room?
@Roritharr I'm waiting for the tweet where you explain what you do instead to
foster #diversity?
The reason for that is: you can afford it.
https://twitter.com/Roritharr/status/823803386227200000
#Diversity – not an issue, you can simply opt-out of it.
https://twitter.com/YConferenceSD/status/823645810508242944
@Roritharr any example will suffice.
@Roritharr for giving me and others an inspiration.
@fdeberle I'm running it also with 'standard

@gr2m I remember that you had a dashboard for hoodie

In my way to @scriptconf! #dbl ICE27

Same problem here @DB_Bahn w/ Archlinux
Workaround: use http://172.18.10.10/ to login via the IP for wifionice.de, which
can be resolved via DNS, but browser has trouble connecting
Cute. #wifionice

@dtanzer when are you arriving?
Not bad for working in a hotel.
@codePrincess yeah, I moved some of the
furniture. Flipped to container; just the usual stuff. (Office Managers would
hate me)

🇦🇹 is a little anachronistic when it comes to smoking.
Sometimes there should be a guard when you use a certain software paradigm, you
need to "sign" that you understand what you are doing.
And when you touch the file again, you need to reaffirm it.
#react apps can create a highly coupled system of nested components, which makes
refactoring hard. #scriptconf
@malk_zameth Yeah. We were talking about
using global states. Sometimes the use is valid, but mostly it's bad sign.
I'm wondering when the desktop icon metaphor will vanish.
You can use Symbols in #JavaScript to define concepts:
http://exploringjs.com/es6/ch_symbols.html
For large structures in #react apps, it makes sense to use
https://facebook.github.io/immutable-js/ … look into if you really have a use
case. #scriptconf
Now for the nitty gritty part: external state.
@nikgraf recommends redux-saga:

Very true. "There are basically no best practices in #javascript." #scriptconf
@thisisgordon we can ask

@airbone42 you could use separate AWS accounts.
No US trips for me anymore.
@airbone42 on the other hand: lamdbas have a

@jke sucht mein Vater auch, für seine Eisenbahn!
Yesterday I talked to an Austrian who was thinking about skipping bachelor and
instead taking a job at a company. I gave him this advice:
The older you get, the harder it will be to get back to University, because the
life style change is not easy. It's a downgrade.
I only studied late, because I got a scholarship which I didn't have to pay back
and my wife was working full time.
But more important: we have the privilege of free education, you owe it to our
society that makes this possible to take this chance.
Don't give up a chance to change your whole life for some short-lived
opportunity. NO company can guarantee that they exist in 5 yrs.
A degree will influence how you appeal to organizations. Even if you have a lot
of experience, candidates with degrees will come first.
And, it's super fun. You'll learn so much about your craft, yourself, that
you'll never learn working for companies.
It's also the nucleus for a great network of people, your future friends,
cofounders and colleagues.
Das Konzept könnte die Politik ja Mal versuchen ...
Heute ist ja alles nur "trendy" oder "chic".
@FrauMamonova That reminded me of this experiment:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asch_conformity_experiments ... Curiosity is a
rare gift, because it's against your nature.
When I was in the Military, I learned that I was expected to deny illegal
orders. Every soldier in Germany serves on this principle.

Ja, die @speakerinnen kenne ich ;-)
@LiMingRichter eher ersteres, aber da gibt
es sicherlich einen klaren Zusammenhang zwischen beidem.
@LiMingRichter ja sicher.

/cc
