@benjamin Ja, gutes Beispiel wie unser
Arbeitsplatz noch "optimiert" wird. Das zu Hinterfragen und einzudämmen wird
schwierig.
Today at #tagderarbeit we celebrate the fight of the working class for a better
society. Here is something important I'd like you to do:
Inform yourself about your rights as a worker and employee! Neither your
employer nor our education will teach you these sufficiently.
Learn about regulations for workplace safety and conditions because your health
is key to a happy life.
Learn about overtime: you do not have to work overtime. The exceptions to that
rule are rare and really hard to justify.
Learn about how to deal with harassment or if you are target of or witnesses
power abuse. Start talking to coworkers and find allies.
Know that you are allowed to talk about your salary! Share this information with
coworkers to understand if you are paid fair.
Learn about "Bildungsurlaub": you get extra vacation for taking education
courses.
A tough one: Hold yourself and your employer to high moral standards. Don't help
in shady or illegal business. Never stop asking questions!
It's ok (and free!) to seek help in case you feel stressed. More people then
ever are hospitalized for psychic treatment in Germany.
Organize! More and more individualized (and sub-contracted) work disconnects the
workforce. Power comes from joining forces on issues.
@robsblog
@mayflowergmbh Absolutely! Equal pay sounds
good, but is hardly what you really want.
@robsblog
@mayflowergmbh Buffer has updated their
scheme recently: https://open.buffer.com/transparent-salaries/ … good ideas in

Later I'll prep a two day consulting workshop this week in which I'll evaluate a

Besides that, updating my homepage and hanging out on Twitter and Slack(s).
@dc7590 Thank you Darren! That's a nice way to

@gazebo_c Best way to start a work phase: zone
out a little. I'm biking to work can start off immediately when arriving.
As a CTO I'm a manager. I manage developers and I manage other managers. That
wasn't clear to me when I started doing this five years ago.

though.
@ManuelBieh Which are also more managerial
roles.
@maybekatz Hm, what if someone writes

@maybekatz Yes, you're right.
@maybekatz Yes, I use snyk. Thanks!
@maybekatz So, what would I use prepare for,
compared to postinstall? Could I even abort an install if exit code is not 0?
@maybekatz E.g. because system level dependency
is missing?

@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu What are
you referring to specifically? I'd argue that @jsconf is an example for a
inclusive and diverse conference.
@SeanTMcGinnis
@e_monty Yes, because decision makers these days
work with old paradigms which they have been taught 20 years ago, by even older
teachers.
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
Ah, ok. From running big events I know from my own XP that this is tough to
manage. Were you asked for your dietary restrictions upfront?
@lukeb3000 This has been circling around HN for
ages: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=743201
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
But why would you have to eat food during a conference, that involves cruelty to
animals?
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
A lot! It's great that people take a stand and offer meals that are environment
friendly, healthy.
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
They provide an example, which shows that you can and must choose always, and
can't just ignore certain aspects for convenience.
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
I'll ignore your argument for plants being equal to animals because you use it
as a deflection.
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
I still don't understand why you, Seif, are offended by not being served meat,
especially if the fact is advertised on the website.
@Roritharr @SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
So, you it makes you feel devalued as a meat eater. I can understand your
feeling.
@Roritharr @SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
Would you say that meat based food is great meal for any group of people,
though?
@SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
Sorry, I misinterpreted that!
@Roritharr Yes, it's too easy, meat is default ingredient for most catering
offers you'll get. I'm curious though, why you personally would need it?
@Roritharr @SeifLotfy
@jsconfeu @jsconf
If you go for the defaults for anything besides content, you would run
conferences for thousands of € per ticket in a Hotel. That sucks.
@Roritharr You are contradictive: you don't want organizers to put focus on
food, but serve exactly what you like?
https://twitter.com/Roritharr/status/861186868456697860
@SeifLotfy How about we conclude this discussion and say that there are many
other conferences besides @jsconfeu where you
also could go. @Roritharr
@SeifLotfy @jsconfeu @Roritharr And maybe some
day, you'll organize your own tech conference, and be an example for others,
like @jsconfeu is today.

So, I've done a few programming tests now, and one things that strikes me as
really odd is the evaluation of knowledge about the Big O. ⤵️
It's unquestionable that I should be able so solve an algorithmic problem
correctly.
But what does implementing a performant solution in withing a short period of
time proof?
I either know the optimal solution already or I'll Google it. What's the point
in that?
I'll always prefer the most straight forward, easy to read and understand
solution for any given problem
than a hard to decipher blurb of lines which can take a while to understand for
other developers.
Because, in the real world, you will in most cases have the help of a VM that
does the optimization for you, or:
you have the time AND the data to figure out the real bottlenecks of an
algorithm.
And in that case, the implementation of the solution will probably be highly
coupled to the specific features of the language.

regarding peerDependencies and this? I have a pkg, which offers a dist build,
but also libraries.
https://coderbyheart.com/ has been revamped. It's a

statically with content from @contentful.

This is of course a beta release. I need to migrate the posts from jekyll.
@maybekatz Sorry for not being clear. I think I
have a more obscure scenario. I'm using install-peer-deps now:

@gerardsans
@asciidisco Here are some stubs:

@PatrickHeneise
@gerardsans
@asciidisco You can use any data store. The
mutations express a change to your domain model. How you persist that change is
a separate concern.

@wellendonner Well, SonarCube (or other)
offer much more metrics about code, not just "style". And commits can circumvent
local eslint, but never the CI.
@wellendonner I run eslint on Travis and
visualize code complexity, TODOs, coverage on
@codeclimate (which SonarCube can do, too).

@wellendonner There are teams, that use SC
for a lot of reporting. Especially for getting a grip on legacy code it can be
helpful.

@mtschammer
@fasterthanlime That's the point. It's
important top understand what an ORM can do, and what you shouldn't do with it.
Because, yeah, you buy a car only for the torque measured at the crankshaft:
https://github.com/alexhultman/Node.js-needs-to-die-in-a-fire-and-Golang-is-the-perfect-arsonist
@mtschammer
@fasterthanlime That's what the diagram
says. An ORM covers ~50% SQL and maybe 80% of your object mapping needs: so it
covers 40% of your problem domain.
@mtschammer
@fasterthanlime Sure, I've seen cases
where the ORM got in the way most of the time, because there were so many custom
queries.

Wat?
@wolframkriesing Here I two things I've
used in the past, both have one thing in common, they are tied to the sourcecode
and convey knowledge through code.
@wolframkriesing 1:
http://www.graphviz.org/ I use it to create model diagrams, but these diagrams
are generate from simple text files.
@wolframkriesing These text files are
easy to update, and evolve with your domain moddel. You can start with simple
words and later add more information,
@wolframkriesing to relations, models and
about boundaries.
@wolframkriesing 2: BDD / Gherkin By
describing the behaviour of the system in plain, parseable english, you use
domain language do desribe the system.
@wolframkriesing Since this is also
driving tests, you'll end up with a compact documentation of your system that is
always up to date.
