and knowing what part a software plays in that are also two different things.

@c089 At my current employer, we give away the
software for free, but having it enables sales in the first place. But customer
pays for consulting
@c089 So, impossible to tell how much money the
software is making this particular example. This is btw a horrible place to be
as a CTO.
@c089 Because you basically have nothing to support
arguments re investing in the software. Because shiny features sell, not
long-term quality.
