Your employer cannot forbid you to talk about your salary. Such contract clauses
are illegal.
It reduces a lot of friction during reviews if you as a company have a clear
salary ladder. Employees can even review their own progress regarding their next
step.
The big staffing companies compile yearly salary overviews, which is a great
source for understanding current market rates.
