This, yet again, means that privileged groups do also benefit to a higher degree
from #paytospeak because it's easier for them the acquire the necessary means
that they can then turn into profit later.

If you speak at a #paytospeak conference, you are complicit in making this a
non-inclusive event.

Another 100% male speaker lineup, from @JavaNord:

No wonder, why. They do not cover speaker expenses. So this is a #paytospeak
conference, too.

You know who can #paytospeak? People selling products. And this is how
conferences organized by Brian end up being full of sales pitches.

@vicbergquist Yes, but underrepresented and
underprivileged groups are affected above average. See #paytospeak.
I use this great post by @nataliewarnert
when talking to conferences about them not covering travel expenses for
speakers: http://nataliewarnert.com/askforpay-instead-of-paytospeak/
#askForPay instead of #payToSpeak
Great and extensive resource on #paytospeak!
And: Same! https://twitter.com/Tweet_Cassandra/status/1030452318918135808
@JOTB2018 @Ravetracer That definitely made it
extra interesting to submit a talk. But also that #jotb2018 had an actionable
Code of Conduct and offered travel support for speakers! #paytospeak

@g33konaut It has so much to do with that!
White dudes like me can easily afford travel costs, because we have well paid
jobs. Check section 2. in this post:

#PaytoSpeak also is about creating awareness that we limit diversity in speaker
panels, because it's very easy to chip in the resources to speak at any given
conf as white male with high-income.
We are the easy choice for conference organizers. Think about this privilege!
For me the sentiment of #paytospeak is that as a speaker, I should pay close
attention how accessible it is for other speakers (especially of
underrepresented groups, unexperienced, or low income) to be able to speak at a
certain conference.
